We highly recommend the annual automotive issue of Consumer Reports. It is generally available in stores from April through June of each year, and we believe that it is easier to look at the information in magazine format than on a computer screen.

Dealers use the NADA guide for pricing. If you are trying to sell your own car to an individual, Kelly and Edmunds may be helpful. If you are buying from or selling to a dealer, they do not mean much.
Note that the NADA pricing is also only a guide because of its regional nature. A two-wheel drive truck generally will not bring book value in Denver, especially in the fall and winter, but a Jeep Wrangler might.
Remember, too, that once dealers determine what they believe the value of a vehicle is based on book value, they want to own the vehicle for that amount after reconditioning. If your vehicle has body damage or mechanical problems, it will be worth less than one in perfect condition.
